Leaders don't dodge


It's easy to dodge when you are the boss. You can make out you don't have the time, or it's too complex to explain, perhaps even just intermate you'll "look at it". 

The truth is you know when you have dodged a genuine question it doesn't serve you in any way.  

Instead it appears as if perhaps you don't know, which is fine but not acknowledging is seen as weakness. Perhaps you don't trust them or perhaps you think they will not understand. All clear ways to be misinterpreted and have your brand damaged.

  • Stop what you are doing  
  • Focus on them intently  
  • Park your own agenda
  • Answer honestly with the truth as long as not breaching confidentiality and if so tell them
  • If you say you'll get back to them, beat the deadline and do it personally   
  • Be present
